  • 20 TRIPS TO IRELAND

When Tom Toohey was a boy, his parents often hosted family parties. At these parties the family gathered around the fireplace and told stories about “the olden days.” When his parents died, Tom collected their stories in a two volume book entitled Images of Other Lives. .This experience led him to become more interested in his ancestors from Ireland and he began to go there to see where they lived.

Since his first trip to Ireland, Tom has studied Irish genealogy with great zeal. He has read Irish history voraciously and attended dozens of lectures given by the most knowledgable Irish genealogists. Tom has returned to Ireland 19 more times and has found the all homes of his ancestors. In addition to his first book, he has written six additional volumes tracing his family history. These experiences have been emotionally powerful and life enriching.

An experienced teacher, Tom has developed a series of programs on genealogy. When attendees at his lectures requested video copies of his programs, Tom began to record them and will make them available soon through this website. He is also available to give his hour-long presentations in person. Tom does not do individual family research.

My newest presentation is entitled Wild Ireland. Part travelogue and part myth, it tells the stories of several “off the road” historic and mythological sites that I have visited in Ireland. These stories are examples of stories that would be important additions to any Irish family history. Using animation, video and music this program is entertaining as well as informative.

For an additional fee I can bring an Irish singer to add to the presentation.
